Tell us about your Education.
I am a licensed Pharmacy Technician. I am also certified by American Breast Care as a mastectomy fitter.
Tell us about your Military or other service.
I am the wife of a retired U. S. Air Force, Air Traffic Controller. We were stationed at various locations throughout the U.S. and England.
Tell us about your Family
I married Steve Dishman in Jan 1967 during my senior year, after graduation I joined him at his duty location in England. We recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. We have two children, a son Derek (1988 Alumni) who is married to a registered nurse (Jennifer) and they have 3 children, Ashley, Nathan, and Avery Rose. Prior to their marriage he served 4 years as a Navy Corpsman. He is an IT Operations Manager for Caesars Riverboat Casino. Our daughter, Melissa (1990 Alumni) is married and has three children, Amber, Krista, Steven, and a step-son (Devin) from her second marriage to Corey Murphy. They have been married a little over a year. Melissa works at Indian Creek Health and Rehabilitation as the Payroll Benefits Coordinator.
Tell us about your Career
I worked in the Military Base Exchanges while we were in the service. Steve retired in Oct. 1986. I started working at Otto Drugs in November 1986 at New Albany. Then it was bought out by Taylor Drugs. I transferred to New Salisbury Taylor?s in November 1987. Then Taylor Drugs was bought out by Rite Aid. In December of 1997 I started working at Davis Drugs in Corydon. And as most local people know it closed in January 2007. So I am unemployed right now, hoping to get a new job soon. I have enjoyed spending the extra free time with the grandchildren.
Tell us about your Hobbies
I really don?t have any hobbies except I love watching the grandchildren play soccer. And my oldest granddaughter is in the Color Guard which is part of the CCHS Band. I enjoy going to her guard completions and watching her perform. My husband and I are CCHS season basketball ticket holders. We really enjoy watching the basketball games.
Tell us about your Good Times
We love going on cruises and vacations with our friends Dave and Lillian Rhodes, and Alvin and Becky Mckim. We have been on numerous cruises and trips together. You can imagine how much fun we have with Lillian, she is a blast. Becky tries to keep Lillian and me in line, which is hard sometimes. We really love spending time with them. We are planning a getaway this year to celebrate all of our 40th wedding anniversaries. We have also traveled with my family members to various locations like a cruise in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and to Washington D.C
Tell us about your Bad Times
I guess my roughest time was in November 2005 just before our last cruise. I went in for my annual mammogram at Harrison County Hospital and they found a lump. Unfortunately it was cancer. I had lumpectomy surgery on Dec 20th. I then completed 33 radiation treatments with flying colors. I?m a cancer survivor and have been cancer free for over a year now. My mother passed away in February 2001, which was a very sad time also.
Tell us about your philosophy of life
Live your life to the fullest, because we never know what God has in store for us. Never take anything for granted, treasure your family and friends, because in the end that?s what matters most.
